Situated about 1,600 miles north of Brisbane, Australia and 3,800 miles from Tahiti, this country is one of the last frontiers for yacht charters. Few places in the world can match its famed waterways, fascinating village culture, abundant wildlife, smoking volcanoes, rainforest hikes and offshore SCUBA diving. Papau New Guineans are the friendliest and most hospitable people you could meet, as long as you are willing to leave some of your cultural baggage at home.

The beginning of the dry season, June/July, is the best time to visit Papau New Guinea. It is at this time that the river level is deep enough for travel and the mosquito's are less numerous (but the crocodiles are year round!).

One unique idea for a yacht charter is to cruise 250 miles up the Sepik River to the Chambri Lakes, stopping at villages along the way to explore. At the entrance to the Chambri Lakes, Pangaea anchors and the guests can spend a few days exploring the lakes in our tenders and kayaks, or in local dugout canoes. Motor yacht Pangaea is able to carry 50,000 gallons of drinking water in her tanks, so in places like this where you cannot make water or get it from a marina; They are one of the very few yachting solutions. After coming down the Sepik River into the Bismark Sea, you can cruise to Rabaul in New Britian or perhaps Kavieng in New Ireland, with some stops in the Witu Islands along the way. This would be a one week charter that almost no one has ever done on a charter yacht!
