The Tuamotu Islands

These islands, which are 250 miles northeast of Tahiti, are a group of large atolls that are full of marine life. Hiking is not the focus here…Your Yacht charter will be all about fishing and SCUBA diving. You could have a one week charter here, but we recommend two weeks to be able to really experience everything. Private jets can land on the islands of Rangiroa and Fakarava. We highly recommend starting on Fakarava or Makemo and cruising down wind the whole charter. If your yacht is equipped for independent diving, yacht charter guests can do two or three SCUBA dives a day, including drift dives through the local passes. Here you will find large pelagic fish like hammerhead sharks, grey sharks, reef sharks, tiger sharks, manta rays, schools of hundreds of barracuda, eagle rays, sailfish and dolphins. There are wall dives on the outside of the atolls to experience the beautiful reefs and schooling fish and sea turtles. This is on the list of the great diving areas of the world. Fakarava has a north pass and a south pass for diving and some charter yachts can cruise inside the atoll to reach the southern pass, which has fabulous beaches. The atolls of Tahanea, Kauehi, Toau, Ahe, Apataki, Tikehau and Rangiroa have beautiful passes to drift dive as well, and all of the atolls offer perfect beaches. Rangiroa, the second largest atoll in the world, has two passes to dive and has very remote beaches on the southeast end where we can have day or night beach parties. Also, the very best Polynesian black pearls are made here in the Tuamotus. Before you finish your charter, a must is a visit to one of the local pearl farms; it's a fantastic way to learn about the delicate production process and to purchase inexpensively some of the world's best pearls.
