Coastal Croatia

The eastern Adriatic abuts the western border of Croatia. This breathtaking coastline has been gaining popularity for some time now, and with reason. You would do well to explore this area on a chartered yacht, which would allow you to view entire stretches of coast from the water while affording you the opportunity to drop anchor at a moment's notice and go explore the land. Meanwhile, a charter yacht is also perfect for traveling between Croatia's many islands offshore of the mainland.

Island Countdown

#5: Korcula. Korcula has marble streets and awesome architecture, which are both impressive features for a vacation destination. There are intimate beaches in the south and lovely natural harbors in the north. Visit Korcula Town's walled citadel that is perfectly paired with meandering streets. St. Mark's Cathedral and the Marco Polo Museum are also good options.

#4: BiĊĦevo (off Vis). This limestone island is home of the Blue Grotto, a beautifully myterious location in the sea. Sunlight breaks through the grotto and gives the cave its heavenly blue tint. Let the light play upon your skin as you swim in this surreal spot. Then go to Vis to get a firsthand look at authentically Croatian wine production, fishing practices, and natural landscapes.

#3: Mljet. Mythology enthusiasts take note! Mljet is the supposed site of Odysseus' marooning, although the atmosphere is one that he might have intentionally stayed for. Between the little cove beaches in the east and the pervasive fresh food, you might find yourself waaylaid there too. Western Mljet is primarily a national park with gorgeous blue lakes, a monastery, and the charming port Pomena.

#2: Brac. Brac is the spot if you are looking for sunbathing and beach lounging. Zlatni Rat beach in southern Brac is a narrow spit of sand that points out into the sea.

Top Spot

Hvar! Once you've approached all of these islands by private yacht, you'll be in good shape to tackle Hvar. This is "yacht central"", and it's the epitome of Croatia's glamorous professionals, hipsters, and partymongering DJs. Exotic cocktail parties abound, and your fellow travelers will be the mainstay of the merrymaking.

Getting There & Away

Dubrovnik or Split often serve as the best means of organizing a charter to this area. Once you fly in, you may feel inclined to see a bit of either of these cities before climbing aboard your chartered yacht.
