Regatta Escape

Climb Aboard and Join the Crew

We can get you on a private yacht for a vacation anytime, anywhere. You can charter a motor yacht or a sail boat, a speedy luxury cruiser or a traditional wooden vessel. No matter the demands of your vacation party, there is a yacht out there with your name on it! The Bahamas are an ideal destination for their varied islands, great weather, and proximity to the US. The Bahamas offer many activities, and if you want to be involved in something really memorable, you might want to consider joining the festivities surrounding racing season. Besides, what’s more yachty than a regatta?!

A Little Competition Goes a Long Way

First of all, many of the boat races in the Bahamas are for amateurs so don’t be intimidated if you want to arrange participation for you and your friends. Some prefer the sun-drenched sidelines, which is just fine because it’s perfectly acceptable to watch, cheer, and party without being a sailor. There are activities scheduled before and after races, and true to Caribbean nature, everything is pretty laid-back. Regattas simply provide a good excuse to meet other people, check out different boats, and be entertained in an exotic locale.

When To Go

There is a weeklong regatta in Abaco in July that includes a couple lay days and visits to several islands. If you were to follow their circuit, you would see Green Turtle Cay, Treasure Cay, and Marsh Harbour. Perhaps you have a boat you’d like to race, but you need a larger yacht to accommodate your crew at night. Your broker can easily arrange the right sized yacht to use for meals and sleeping so that you’re completely taken care of when you’re not racing. The comfort and relaxation aboard your charter yacht will help you perform better come racing time!

Sailing regattas in the Bahamas start in January with Exuma's Bulla Regatta, and the schedule goes through October, with races in Nassau, San Salvador, and Eleuthera. The National Family Island Regatta in April is traditional Bahamian sloop racing at its most fun. While you're in the area, check out Dean’s Blue Hole - the world’s deepest seawater blue hole. Spectators get to see how the wind affects the race, the way different boats move, and what the crews do to maneuver the boats. After the course is complete, celebrate with everyone else by taking a swim, drinking a cocktail, and watching the sun set on another beautiful day in the Bahamas!

Summer's End Calendar

August is a big month when it comes to racing. Here is what you could expect to see:
-Cat Island Regatta at Cat Island
-Black Point Regatta at Exuma
-Rolleville Regatta at Exuma
-Acklins/Crooked Island Regatta at Acklins
-Grand Bahama Regatta at Grand Bahama Island

Cat Island Regatta takes place on Emancipation Day holiday weekend, and it features some cultural activities that would be fun for the family. The Acklins/Crooked Island Regatta gets kicked off with a float parade from the airport, and the Grand Bahama Regatta would be worth the trip if only to check out Freeport afterwards.
